M Shahjahan served as Managing Director of Grameen Bank from August 14, 2011 to October 30, 2015, capping a distinguished career at the institution where he held several key leadership positions including Deputy Managing Director, General Manager, Head of the Accounts, Finance, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Division, Chief of Operation of the Eastern Region, and Zonal Manager.
At the beginning of his Grameen career, he was instrumental in establishing and designing the Internal Audit Department of Grameen Bank, where he served as Chief for seven years, helping to shape the bank's operational framework and governance structure. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in Accounting from the University of Dhaka in 1976, followed by a Master's degree in Accounting in 1977 and a Master's degree in Finance in 1981, and was awarded the ICAB Medal (Silver) for passing the C.A. Intermediate examination at the earliest eligible opportunity in 1981.
Currently retired from executive roles, Mr. Shahjahan serves as Chairman of Grameen Telecom Trust, is an advisor to Chairperson Professor Muhammad Yunus, and sits on the Board of Directors of several companies operating in health, education, agriculture, welfare, renewable energy, and telecommunications sectors, continuing to contribute to the microfinance and development sectors.
