International Women’s Day was celebrated at GTT with its employees and guests at the Social Business Learning Centre (SBLC) of GTT. This year’s UN’s slogan for International Women’s Day is: “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives” and IWD (International Women’s Day) theme is: Press for Progress.
Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) in her remark, said that- there are success on women’s empowerment, unfortunately there are stories of failures as well and we have to work harder to overcome these.
Ms. Nurjahan Begum (Former Managing Director, Grameen Shakti, Grameen Bank) shared her experiences and thoughts regarding gender equality at work and in home. While, Mr. Md. Ashraful Hassan (CEO, Grameen Telecom Trust) in his opening speech, addressed the issue of women’s hardship achieving success. He called the guests and the employees of GTT to empower their girl child for a better future.
The other guest speakers were:, Ms. Saleha Begum (Managing Director, Grameen Shakti Samajik Byabosha Ltd.), Ms. Nazneen Sultana (Managing Director, Grameen Communications), and Ms. Farjana Rafiq (Sr. manager, Admin & HR, Grameen Telecom).
Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam (Assistant Officer, Finance & Accounts, MIS) and Mr. Mohammad Sadmani Iqbal (Officer, HR & Admin) gave presentation on their recent participation in workshop and conference in Japan, Canada and Malaysia.
There was a joint reading and reciting on notable Bangladeshi women and from their works by Ms. Nazia Ferdows Shemme (Officer, Admin & Supply Chain, GTT) and Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam (Assistant Officer, Finance & Accounts, MIS). Ms. Shahela Khatun Akhi (Assistant Officer, F&A) and Mr. Aaron Nabi (Officer, Communication) sang songs on the occasion. The program ended with cake cutting and photo session followed by snacks.
