Grameen Telecom Trust at the 7th Social Business Day

Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) and Md. Ashraful Hassan (Chief Executive Officer, Grameen Telecom Trust) presented at the Pecha Kucha session on behalf of Grameen Telecom Trust at the 7th Social Business Day which was held on 28 July 2017 at the conference room of Hotel Le Meridian. The program was supposed to be held at Samajik Convention Centre in Zirabo, Savar, Dhaka with the theme “Can Wealth Concentration be Stopped?”. However due to some unavoidable circumstances it took place at Le Meridian.

At the beginning of the session, Ms Lamiya Morshed, Executive Director, Yunus Centre, presented the welcome speech on behalf of Yunus Centre and thanked the present guests.

Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus welcomed almost 250 international participants representing over 50 countries. He said, “This is a gathering of social business practitioners, academics and enthusiasts what we call a family gathering. We wait the whole year for this day to come together and see each other and share our views.”
Mr. Thomas Gass, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, the focal point of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) delivered the keynote speech. Mr. Joël Bouzou, President of the World Olympians Association delivered his greeting speech where he talked on the subject of the Olympic movement, society and social business.

There were several speakers, MOU signing, plenary sessions and panel discussions. Panels including Pecha Kucha sessions titled 1. Paris City Social Business 2. Grameen China 3. Barcelona Social Business City 4. Danone Communities Fund 5. Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) 6. Nepal Social Business Fund & 7. Academia: Update about YSBC.

Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) presented a video on the activities of Grameen Telecom Trust. Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) is the pioneer for facilitating Social Business in Bangladesh serving humanity’s most pressing needs focusing on the three zeros, zero poverty, zero unemployment and zero carbon emission. The video presentation included all the activities and social business programs of GTT.

Following was another presentation by Md. Ashraful Hasan (CEO, Grameen Telecom Trust) on the updates and future plan of the Project Infrastructure and Development (PID) of GTT which has been started to build the social business ecosystem. Mr. Hasan also presented a time lapse video of the construction process of Samajik Convention Centre at Zirabo, a 2030 seat convention centre at Ashulia to be completed in 3 phases.

Mr. Sultan Ahmed Bhuiyan (CFO, GTT), Mr. Manjur Ahmed (Head of HR and Admin, GTT), Mr. Jayanta Kumer Bosu (Team Leader, Social Business), Md. Jahirul Islam Khan (AGM, PID, GTT), Mr. Major Mustafizur Rahman (Retd.) (Project In-Charge, Zirabo, GTT) were also present during the presentations of GTT at the Pecha Kucha Session.
