On 10 August 2016, Chairman & Managing Trustee of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT), Nobel Laureate Professor Mohammad Yunus was congratulated and welcomed by the Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) along with all staffs of GTT with flowers. Managing Directors of other Grameen companies also congratulated and welcomed him to mark the occasion of carrying the Olympic Torch on the final leg of the torch relay in Rio Olympic Games 2016.

Professor Muhammad Yunus is the first Bangladeshi to be honored as the Olympic Torchbearer of the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. He took the flame from another celebrity torch bearer in a brief ceremony and walked 200 meters with the torch amid loud applause and cheers of the crowds. In a short speech, Professor Mohammad Yunus shared his experience in Rio Olympic Games, 2016 and thanked the Grameen family members.
